Janelle Althen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with couples and families since 1994. Janelle attended the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver (MSW 1995), and did post-graduate work in marriage and family therapy at Denver Family Institute (1996) and she maintains a model that is systemic and oriented toward facilitating change. Her primary areas of expertise are attachment (applied to both young children and adult relationships), interpersonal neurobiology, complex trauma, and couples work.

Janelle has been teaching graduate students since 2008, both as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work and as a faculty member at Denver Family Institute. She focuses on two areas: couple therapy and child and adolescent trauma and early stress.

In addition to teaching and working with private practice clients in Denver and Golden, Janelle serves as the co-director of the PASS Center, which provides trauma-informed, systemic, and strength-based therapy to families (primarily families with internationally adopted children or foster families) and couples, and offers education to parents and professionals.

Janelle continues to provide trainings in attachment & neuroscience, adoption, early infant mental health, complex trauma, parenting, couples skills, and marriage & family issues to schools, churches, non-profits, mental health centers, and government agencies.
